Presenter: Prithwiraj Purkayastha

Namaskar and hello friends! Welcome to August edition of Indian DX Report on KBS Listener's Launge. I am your host Prithwiraj from Assam. So lets begin with some DX News and first a sad news for Shortwave radio enthusiasts.

According to a Russian news magazine, Voice of Russia will stop its shortwave broadcasts from 1st January 2014 and they are doing this again due to budget cuts, following the same path already adopted by many other international broadcasters specially from Europe. Voice of Russia, established in 1929, currently uses RTRBN transmitters to broadcast to foreign countries using short and medium waves. After the shortwave service goes off the air, only three low-power medium wave transmitters will be used to broadcast to other countries and they will mostly use FM band transmitters based abroad, the magazine said. At the beginning of this year, Voice of Russia cut the total volume of shortwave broadcasts to 26 hours a day from more than 50 hours in 2012. For South Asia, apart from English Voice of Russia currently broadcasting in Hindi between 1300 to 1400 UTC on 7505, 9445 and 11530 kHz and between 1500 to 1600 UTC on 7505 and 9445 kHz. VOR Urdu language broadcast can be heard between 1400 to 1500 UTC on 7505 and 9445 kHz.

After remaining silent in August, PCJ Radio International will again start broadcast its Sunday only one hour shortwave programs from 1st September from 1330 to 1430 UTC on 11835 kHz with Focus Asia Pacific with Andy Sennitt  and the Happy Station Show with Keith Perron.

On 15th August every year India and South Korea celebrate their independence day with lots of joy and emotions.  In India as a tradition, every year the honourable president of India address the nation on the eve of Independence day, that is, on 14th August evening and on Independence day, that is, on 15th August the Prime Minister of nation hoists the national flag at New Delhi's Red Fort and address the nation from there. India's national broadcaster All India Radio and all its regional stations broadcast both these events "live" on shortwave, medium wave and FM bands and  for DXers who love to tune regional shortwave stations of All India Radio this is a nice opportunity to try and log AIR stations, may be some rare and irregular ones also. This year I have monitored both these special independence day coverages and found that All India Radio Kohima station operating from North Eastern state of Nagaland was heard after several month's  silence on 4850 kHz and MW 639 kHz around 1330 UTC and 0130 UTC with nice and loud reception. Another North eastern station Aizawl from Mizoram province was also heard with decent reception on 5050 kHz around the same time. AIR Shillong from Meghalaya province was found good enough on 4971 kHz instead of their official frequency 4970 kHz on 15th August morning covering main function from Red Fort. AIR Itanagar from Arunachal Pradesh province bordering China was off air on SW 4990 kHz, but I heard them on MW 675 kHz with Independence Day coverage. AIR Guwahati from my home state Assam, was heard on 7420 kHz on 15th August morning but nothing was on 4940 kHz which has been reported off air for some time now. AIR Imphal is still off air on both  7335 kHz and 4775 kHz. AIR Gangtok from Sikkim was heard on 4835 kHz but the reception was not that satisfactory here in my QTH. Here is a quick reception summary of other AIR stations I have monitored on 15th August between 0130-0245 UTC.

11985 kHz- Delhi- SINPO 45444
